Fractional CFO services and financial coaching

Your bookkeeper tells you what happened. A fractional CFO helps you decide what's next.

CEO Finance Academy gives owner-led businesses CFO-level help with cash flow, margins, and growth decisions, for a fraction of what a full-time CFO costs. Know where your cash will be in 13 weeks, which work actually makes money, and what you can safely pay yourself.

Revenue is up. So why does cash still feel tight?

Most owners we talk to aren't short on effort or sales. They're short on financial visibility. These are the things we hear on almost every first call.

"The P&L says we made money, but I'm still nervous every time payroll runs."
"I honestly don't know which jobs, services, or locations make us money."
"My bookkeeper and CPA look backward. Nobody helps me plan the next 12 months."
"I want to hire, buy equipment, or open a location, and I'm going on gut feel."
"I don't know what I can safely pay myself, so I usually go last."
"Tax time keeps surprising me, and the money is never set aside."

Once a business passes about $1M in revenue, it gets too complex to run from the bank balance. But it usually isn't big enough to justify a $250,000 full-time CFO. That gap is where we come in.

Two ways to work with us

Have us run the numbers with you, or learn to run them yourself

Both start with cleaning up your books and building a forecast you can trust. The difference is how hands-on we are after that.

For owners who want to learn it

The Academy: Owner Training

One-on-one financial coaching that teaches you to read your numbers, plan your cash, and make decisions like a CFO. A good fit for owners under about $1M or anyone who wants to build the skill themselves.

  • Weekly 45-minute meetings with your dedicated profit coach
  • Done-for-you review of your bookkeeping
  • A simple cash system for taxes, reserves, and owner pay
  • Training on your P&L, cash flow, and the few KPIs that matter
  • Ongoing process training as the business grows

Several versions of the program are available. We'll recommend one on your demo call.

Construction and home services

Over 100 contractors trust us with their numbers

Construction finance is its own animal. Revenue lands over the life of a job, cash shows up 60 to 90 days later, and one underbid project can wipe out a quarter's profit. Most bookkeepers were never trained for that.

Our CFOs already know job costing, WIP schedules, retainage, progress billing, and seasonal cash swings, so we start finding problems on the first call instead of spending three months learning your trade.

Client results

From covering payroll with a 34% loan to a $200K cash reserve

Lee M. owns a $3M construction and excavation company in Michigan with 22 employees. On paper the company was profitable. In the bank, it was broke. Government receivables had grown to $750,000, and he'd taken a $150,000 hard-money loan at 34% just to make payroll.

We restructured his P&L by service line, set up a monthly close, built a rolling cash flow forecast, and mapped every dollar of debt with a payoff plan.

"Being able to have a holistic view of my business, understand where money comes in and goes, and know what I need to do from a profitability standpoint to actually have positive cash flow. That's by far the biggest takeaway." Lee M., construction and excavation company owner

Who you'll work with

Business owners who help business owners

Our founders started out as doctors of physical therapy, not accountants, and became business owners themselves. Along the way they noticed something: almost every owner we met had a marketing coach, a sales coach, or a product consultant. Hardly any had someone helping them understand and plan their finances, even though poor cash flow is the number one reason small businesses fail.

So we built that. Today our team of fractional CFOs, profit coaches, and bookkeepers works with owners across the country from our remote offices in Salt Lake City and Pittsburgh.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does CEO Finance Academy do?

We give owner-led businesses CFO-level financial help in two ways. Our fractional CFO services provide a part-time CFO who builds your cash flow forecast, analyzes your margins, oversees your bookkeeping, and helps you make major decisions. Our Academy coaching program teaches owners to manage those numbers themselves through weekly one-on-one coaching.

How is this different from my bookkeeper or CPA?

Your bookkeeper records what already happened and your CPA handles taxes and compliance. Both mostly look backward. We look forward: forecasting cash, finding which work is profitable, planning owner pay and tax reserves, and modeling decisions like hiring, pricing, and equipment before you commit. We work alongside your bookkeeper and CPA, not instead of them.

How much do your services cost?

Fractional CFO pricing depends on the size and complexity of your business. You can see our plans and what each one includes on the fractional CFO services page. For comparison, a full-time CFO typically costs $200,000 to $350,000 or more per year. The Academy has several program levels, and we'll recommend one on your demo call.

What size business do you work with?

Most fractional CFO clients do between $1M and $20M in annual revenue. Owners under about $1M, or owners who want to learn to run their own numbers, are usually a better fit for the Academy.

Do you only work with contractors?

No. We've worked with more than 315 businesses across 40+ industries, including healthcare practices, agencies, staffing companies, ecommerce brands, restaurants, and home care. Construction and home services is our deepest specialty, with 100+ clients in that space.

Do you work with businesses outside Utah and Pennsylvania?

Yes. Our offices are in Salt Lake City and Pittsburgh, but every engagement runs remotely through video meetings, shared dashboards, and direct access to your accounting system, so we work with owners across the United States.

See what a CFO would fix first

Book a free 30-minute call. We'll walk through your cash flow, margins, and biggest opportunities, and you'll leave with at least one thing to fix this month, whether you hire us or not.
